A plastic, throw away society?

Updated: Mar 9, 2018

Plastic packaging might be convenient, cheap and easy, but are our luxuries worth the long-term impacts ?

School lunchboxes are packed with plastic. From zip lock bags to fruit pouches, the plastic contents of a single lunch box can contribute a whopping 30 kilograms of plastic to landfill each year. Multiply that out by 600 students in a medium-sized school and you have an enormous 18,000kg of plastic waste each year!

Can you reduce the amount of soft-plastic packaging that you send to school each day? Reduce and recycle. Plastic is a resource..not rubbish!

You can make a difference by choosing alternative to soft- plastic packaging. Instead of cling wrap, use beeswax wraps or reusable containers, Buy one large packet of snacks instead of individually wrapped portions. Bring yoghurt in a container rather than a squeezy pouch. And anything you do bring can be recycled instead of thrown out into the general garbage.

We have a system in place to educate our students and to reduce and recycle the plastics we do bring. We won't contribute to plastic in landfill or in our precious oceans!!

You can help to reduce the problem. Think about what is in your lunch box or that of your child and remember plastic is a resource NOT rubbish!
